Put a Lid on It! – Wednesday Mornings with Wyn Matthews (6/7 – 7/12), 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM

Dates: Wednesdays, June 7th – July 12th (6 weeks)

Times: 10:00AM – 1:00PM

Price: $360 (glaze, 1 bag of B Mix clay, firing, instruction and drop-in open studio time included). Tools ($20 + tax) and additional clay ($15-$35 per 25 lb bag) available for purchase at Clay Studio.

Description: This course will cover how to make lidded vessels; beginning with the exploration of four different types of lids and ending with an opportunity for more creative exploration and experimentation in form making. Students will learn to create 4 basic lid types:  Recessed, Domed, Flanged, and Ginger Jar. Throughout the course, participants will experiment with the different lid types and will be encouraged to explore their vessels in more detail and variations. Age 18+.

This course is suitable for: Intermediate and advanced students. Skill expectation is that the student can confidently center and throw an 6’’ tall basic cylinder with fairly even walls and rim.

Recommended prerequisite classes: At least one Introduction to Wheel Throwing class (the more experience, the better)

Additional Tools Required by Students: You’ll need a caliper to measure your pot and lid diameters.

Drop-in open studio hours will be available for this course: Students are welcome to come in to Clay Studio during our Open Studio Lab hours to work independently on Sundays from 11AM-4PM, Mondays from 10AM-1PM, Tuesdays from 4PM-8PM, and Fridays from 10AM-1PM. Please note that Open Studio Lab hours are subject to change.
