Art of Kurinuki with Dini

Description: Create your own set of Kurinuki cups in 2 hours. ‘Kurinuki’ is a Japanese term relating to a particular hand-forming process, which employs carving out a shaped solid block of clay to obtain interior space. We’ll discuss the history of this technique while making a set of 2 cups that you can enjoy at home. Intended for all ages and all skill levels. Students will choose one glaze and Clay Studio staff will glaze and fire all pieces.
About the instructor: Dini Dixon is Clay Studio’s former Studio Manager. Now living in Brooklyn, Dini continues to teach live virtual classes and workshops for Clay Studio. Dini received a BFA in Ceramics from Pratt Institute. Her work explores the intersection of video and ceramics utilizing traditional ceramic techniques and stop motion animation. In 2018 she had solo exhibitions at 808 Projects in Denver and the Thomas Hunter Project Space in Manhattan. Her video The Long Goodbye was an official selection of the 2018 Supernova Digital Animation Festival.
