
Intermediate Techniques: Combining Thrown and Slab Forms – Thursday Evenings with Michelle Griffoul (9/14 – 11/2), 5:30 PM- 8:30 PM

Price: $350 (glaze, unlimited reclaimed clay, firing, instruction and drop-in open studio time included). Tools ($15 + tax) and additional clay ($25-$35 per 25 lb bag) available for purchase at Clay Studio.
Description: In this class students will learn to combine both slab techniques and thrown forms to create a range of ceramic wares. Students will be encouraged to experiment with making oval dishes, teapots, and various other shapes throughout this 8 week course. While students continue to improve their throwing skills, they will begin to visualize how combining techniques can enhance their final forms. With support from experienced instructor Michelle, participants will learn how to combine these practices with an emphasis on design experimentation.
Age 18+.
This course is suitable for: Intermediate and advanced students. Skill expectation is that the student can confidently center and throw an 8’’ tall basic cylinder.
Recommended prerequisite classes: At least one Introduction to Wheel Throwing class (the more experience, the better)
Drop-in open studio hours will be available for this course: Students are welcome to come in to Clay Studio during our Open Studio Lab hours to work independently on Sundays from 11AM-4PM, Mondays from 10AM-1PM, Tuesdays from 4PM-8PM, and Fridays from 10AM-1PM. Please note that Open Studio Lab hours are subject to change.
