Intermediate Techniques: Clay Doctor – Short Session – Monday Afternoons with Isaih Porter (9/11 – 10/2), 1:00 PM-4:00 PM

Dates: Mondays, September 11th – October 2nd (4 weeks)

Times: 1:00PM – 4:00PM

Price: $200 (glaze, unlimited reclaimed clay, firing, instruction and drop-in open studio time included). Tools ($15 + tax) and additional clay ($25-$35 per 25 lb bag) available for purchase at Clay Studio.

Description: In this 4-week Short Session, students will be diagnosing and correcting common problems you might be encountering during your throwing sessions. The class will be customized to address the problems of the students in the class. Isaih will also demonstrate the techniques he uses to glaze (dipping, pouring, spraying, and painting) and wax his pieces so they come out of the kiln beautifully and safely.

Ages 18+

This course is suitable for: Intermediate and advanced students

Recommended prerequisite classes: At least one Introduction to Wheel Throwing class (the more experience, the better)

Drop-in open studio hours will be available for this course: Students are welcome to come in to Clay Studio during our Open Studio Lab hours to work independently on Sundays from 11AM-4PM, Mondays from 10AM-1PM, Tuesdays from 4PM-8PM, and Fridays from 10AM-1PM. Please note that Open Studio Lab hours are subject to change.

About your instructor: Isaih Porter is a small-batch studio potter based out of Santa Barbara, in beautiful Southern California. His work is inspired by the ardent coastline and carries a humble reverence for the craftspeople of yore. Honing his craft over the past decade, Isaih produces bespoke ceramics that bring often understated excitement and whimsy into your home. From functional objects like everyday bowls or your daily-driver mug, to over-the-top statement pieces like five-gallon pitchers or three-foot tall cookie jars, Isaih creates vessels to be lived amongst and together with.
