
Abstract Mugs – Tuesday Evenings with Anthony Escalante (6/6 – 7/11), 5:30 PM- 8:30 PM
Dates: Tuesdays, June 6th – July 11th (6 weeks)
Times: 5:30PM – 8:30PM
Price: $360 (glaze, 1 bag of Dark Brown clay, firing, instruction and drop-in open studio time included). Tools ($20 + tax) and additional clay ($15-$35 per 25 lb bag) available for purchase at Clay Studio.
Description: This course will focus on mug making with an emphasis on exploring unique and unusual mug forms. Students will explore mug making in a more whimsical and abstract manner that focuses on form, texture, and surface design. Using elements of the wheel as well as handbuilding, students are encouraged to explore using molds, experimenting with colored slips, underglazes, and glazing techniques. This course will bring the traditional potter out of their comfort zone and encourage them to play. Age 18+.
This course is suitable for: Intermediate and advanced students
Recommended prerequisite classes: At least one Introduction to Wheel Throwing class (the more experience, the better)
Drop-in open studio hours will be available for this course: Students are welcome to come in to Clay Studio during our Open Studio Lab hours to work independently on Sundays from 11AM-4PM, Mondays from 10AM-1PM, Tuesdays from 4PM-8PM, and Fridays from 10AM-1PM. Please note that Open Studio Lab hours are subject to change.
