2022 Summer Clay Camp Registration is Live!

Clay Studio is thrilled to offer our Summer Clay Camp starting in July 2022!

Clay is the perfect artistic vehicle for children to explore the elements and foundations of art and design. These elements include color, line, shape, form, texture, space, and value.

Highly trained art instructors with years of teaching children within the Santa Barbara community will share their insight and knowledge around art, design, and the importance of environmental respect. A multifaceted curriculum allows children to engage in hands-on art projects in an outdoor setting, with the opportunity to learn more about the studio and it’s offerings. We will be announcing our 2022 Summer Clay Camp Registration soon! Join our mailing list to be the first to know!

Allison Grisham

Allison Grisham’s love affair with clay began in 2001 when her wheel class developed into a meditative practice. Her first years at the wheel were spent allowing the clay to tell her what it wants to be. Then the technical challenges of clay seduced her, and she developed her raku, handbuilding, and glazing techniques at the Spruill Arts Center in Atlanta. In 2007, she apprenticed with master potter Esias Bosch and his daughter Esra Bosch in their production
studio in White River, Mpumpalanga, South Africa. Inspired by the beauty of the lowveld, her work at Bosch Studio focused on nature paintings with oxides on complex wheel pottery. From 2009-2011, Allison taught handbuilding and wheel pottery to 3rd -8th graders at Temple Beth Sholom in in Miami Beach.

Allison also spent the last twenty years building educational programs at churches and nonprofits for children. Most recently she served as the Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries at All Saints by-the-Sea in Montecito and as a Garden Educator for Explore Ecology in Goleta. She is delighted to combine her experiences with clay and educational programming in her work at Clay Studio.

In her free time, Allison likes gardening, spending time with her husband Deron, beating their children at board games, hiking with her dog Waffles, and reading a book with her cat Lavender purring beside her.
